Deep Listening & Tacit Workflows

George Jensen is a researcher who practices deep listening through interviews with knowledge workers about their daily experiences, and then builds knowledge systems out of the responses. As a qualitative information scientist and operations lead, he works on the parts of an organization that never get written down and are lost in the cracks: the tacit workflows hidden inside everyday knowledge work, the handoffs and workarounds people perform without ever describing.

What has changed is that AI can now carry the qualitative processing this kind of deep listening generates, the tracking, sorting and re-sorting that used to make the work too expensive to sustain. The listening itself is still a human task. He argues it matters more now than ever to listen deeply. His work appears in The ResearchOps Review, April 2026, and he writes at ResearchOps.ai.

Enterprise Systems & Experience

The deep listening practice rests on more than 25 years of building the systems organizations use. Jensen holds a Master of Information Science from Indiana University where he began research on knowledge bases, semantic search, and early web crawling.

Jensen spent years as a UX architect and strategist doing user research and usability testing that fed design decisions for Fortune 500 clients such as Eli Lilly. He led global software delivery for enterprise clients including Microsoft Teams and Credit Suisse, as well as institutions of higher education, community-based and non-governmental organizations.

At Nationwide he recently led research operations and enterprise knowledge for more than 20,000 internal users and delivered AI-enabled research systems.
